Where we are
Alexandria is Egypt’s principal Mediterranean city, located 220km north of Cairo.
The city was known for its lighthouse (Pharos), one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World;its library, the largest library in the ancient world; and the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, one of the Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages.
Ongoing maritime archaeology in the city’s harbour has helped reconstruct the city’s development from before the arrival of Alexander, when a city named Rhakotis existed there, and during the Ptolemaic dynasty. Today, it is a popular holiday resort and home to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the new Library. It is the centre for the natural gas and oil industry and is Egypt’s principal seaport.

What to wear
The weather in October is superb. The temperature varies between 18C (64F) and 28C (82F).
There is very little rain in the month. The city has relatively high humidity but sea breezes
keep the moisture down to a comfortable level.
